"Nonviolence is a powerful and just weapon, which cuts without wounding and ennobles the man who wields it. It is a sword that heals." ~Martin Luther King, Jr.

Jail/Prison/Community Groups

Spiritus Christi Prison Outreach is committed to offering resources to incarcerated individuals and ex-offenders in our community. We have a strong core of volunteers and staff who work together to create an environment where positive change is fostered.

Spiritus Christi Prison Outreach facilitates weekly visitation groups for approximately 400 women and men per year in the Monroe County Jail and New York State Prison system. In these voluntary groups, men and women engage in the courageous process of facing the issues that led to their incarceration. These relationships serve as a foundation for the incarcerated women and men who move into Jennifer House and Nielsen House.

A weekly community support group, led by Spiritus Christi Prison Outreach staff and volunteers, is available for ex-offenders living within the Rochester community.

Many of these women and men will become leaders in our community and often return to mentor others and participate as volunteers or staff in our programs. For example, some graduates are in school or working in our community as nurses, case managers, pre-school teachers, carpenters and home health aides.
